These Terms & Conditions apply to every vehicle rented from Java Rentals, Tirana International Airport, Albania (javacar.rentals). By booking or signing the rental agreement, the renter accepts them in full. Last updated: 14 October 2026.
1. Introduction and definitions
- Company / we / us: Java Rentals, Tirana International Airport, Albania (javacar.rentals).
- Renter / you: the person who books the vehicle and signs the rental agreement.
- Driver: the renter and any additional driver named in the rental agreement.
- Vehicle: the car rented, including its keys, documents, tools and accessories.
- Rental agreement: the contract signed at pickup. It includes these Terms, the vehicle condition report and the booking details.
- Rental period: from the pickup date and time to the return date and time stated in the rental agreement.
If these Terms and the signed rental agreement differ, the signed rental agreement applies.
2. Driver requirements
- Every driver must be at least 18 years old.
- Drivers aged 18 to 22 pay a young driver fee of €5 per day. Drivers aged 23 and over pay no extra fee.
- Every driver must hold a valid driving licence, held for at least 1 year. A licence not in the Latin alphabet must come with an International Driving Permit.
- The renter must show a valid passport or national ID card at pickup.
- Only drivers named in the rental agreement may drive the vehicle. Additional drivers must be registered at pickup and meet the same requirements.
- We may refuse a rental if a driver does not meet these requirements, or appears to be under the influence of alcohol or drugs. In that case no refund is due for a prepaid booking.
3. Booking, payment and deposit
- A booking is confirmed once we send a confirmation by email, WhatsApp or phone.
- Prices are shown in euro (€) and include unlimited kilometres and the third-party liability insurance required by Albanian law. Extras are charged as listed: child or baby seat €5 per day, extra driver €2 per day, full protection insurance €10 per day on standard cars, €15 per day on SUVs and €20 per day on vans, young driver fee €5 per day. Border crossing permits cost €20 for Kosovo, Montenegro or North Macedonia, €100 for Greece and €150 for other countries. Delivery to your address costs €15 in Tirana, €50 in Durrës, €150 in Shkodër, €170 in Vlorë and €250 in Sarandë.
- No prepayment is taken on the website. Payment is made in cash or by card at pickup; bank transfer is also accepted.
- No security deposit. Java Rentals does not take a security deposit, and no money is held or blocked on your card.
- Instead, the renter is fully and personally responsible under the signed rental agreement for the vehicle during the rental period, as set out in section 8. Not paying a deposit does not reduce this responsibility.
- The rental is charged per 24-hour period, starting from the pickup time. The price you see when you book is the price you pay; there are no hidden charges.
4. Cancellation and changes
- Free cancellation: you may cancel free of charge up to 24 hours before pickup. There are no cancellation fees and no hidden costs.
- Cancellations made later than that, or a no-show, may be charged the price of one rental day.
- To cancel or change a booking, contact us by phone, WhatsApp or email. A cancellation counts from the time we receive it.
- Changes to dates, times or vehicle depend on availability. Price differences will be charged or refunded.
- If your flight is delayed, please tell us. We will wait or rearrange pickup where possible.
- If we cannot provide the booked vehicle, we will offer a similar or higher category at no extra cost, or a full refund.
5. Pickup and return
- Vehicles are delivered and collected at Tirana International Airport (Rinas) or our Tirana city desk, unless another place is agreed. Delivery elsewhere in Albania (Durrës, Shkodër, Vlorë, Sarandë) is available for a fee.
- At pickup, the renter and our staff inspect the vehicle together and record any existing damage on the condition report, with photos. The renter should check the report carefully before signing.
- Damage not recorded at pickup and found at return is treated as having happened during the rental period.
- The vehicle must be returned on the agreed date, time and place, in the same condition, clean inside and with all keys, documents and accessories.
- Late return: the rental runs in periods of 24 hours from the pickup time. If you tell us in advance (a WhatsApp message is enough), you may return up to 2 hours after the agreed return time at no extra charge. Without prior notice, a late return starts a further 24-hour period and a full extra day is charged.
- If the vehicle is not returned and the renter cannot be reached within 24 hours of the agreed return time, we may report it to the police as missing.
- Returning the vehicle very dirty, or with smoke or pet smells, may be charged a cleaning fee of €50.
6. Mileage, fuel and travel abroad
- Unlimited kilometres: all rentals include unlimited mileage at no extra cost. There are no daily limits and no charges per kilometer.
- Fuel, same to same: you return the car with the same amount of fuel it had when you picked it up. The fuel level is recorded at pickup, and we recommend taking a photo of the gauge. There are no inflated fuel prices: you only pay for what you actually use, at normal pump prices. Fuel missing on return is charged at the pump price plus a refuelling fee of €10.
- The renter must use the correct fuel type. Damage caused by wrong fuel is fully charged to the renter.
- Travel abroad: the vehicle may leave Albania only with our written permission given before pickup. The cross-border permit fee is stated in section 3: €20 for Kosovo, Montenegro or North Macedonia, €100 for Greece and €150 for any other country. The Green Card insurance for the country you visit is sold by the border police at the border itself.
- Taking the vehicle abroad without permission is a serious breach. Any insurance cover is then void and the renter is liable for all costs, including recovery of the vehicle.
7. Use of the vehicle
The renter must drive carefully, follow Albanian traffic law and keep the vehicle locked when parked. The vehicle must not be used:
- by anyone not named in the rental agreement
- under the influence of alcohol, drugs or medicine that affects driving
- off-road, on beaches, or on roads unsuitable for the vehicle
- in races, rallies, speed tests or driving lessons
- to carry passengers or goods for payment (taxi, delivery, transport services)
- to tow or push another vehicle or trailer
- to carry more people or weight than the vehicle allows
- for any illegal purpose
- for smoking inside the vehicle
- to carry animals, unless agreed in advance
The renter may not sell, sublet, lend or modify the vehicle. Breaking these rules makes the renter fully liable for all resulting damage and costs, even where insurance would otherwise apply.
8. Renter's responsibility
From pickup until the vehicle is returned and checked by our staff, the renter is responsible for the vehicle. Because no deposit is taken, the renter agrees to pay the following directly:
- Damage to the vehicle during the rental period, in full where insurance does not apply, and in full if Full Protection was not taken.
- Theft or loss of the vehicle, keys, documents or accessories, where caused by the renter's negligence (for example, keys left in the car or the car left unlocked).
- Loss of use: one daily rental rate for each day the vehicle cannot be rented while being repaired.
- Traffic and parking fines, tolls and penalties from the rental period, plus an administration fee of €15 per fine. The renter's details may be passed to the authorities.
- Towing, recovery and repair costs caused by misuse, wrong fuel or breaking section 7.
Damage costs are based on a repair quote or invoice from a garage, with photos, which we will share with the renter. Payment is due within 7 days of our written request.
The renter accepts that we may recover unpaid amounts through legal action in Albania or in the renter's home country. Legal and collection costs are then added to the amount due.
9. Insurance and damage cover
- Every vehicle has the third-party liability insurance required by Albanian law. It covers damage to other people and their property, not to the rented vehicle.
- Full Protection is optional and can be added to any booking: €10 per day on standard cars, €15 per day on SUVs and €20 per day on vans. It is the most complete cover we offer, and it removes almost every financial worry of renting a car in Albania.
What Full Protection covers:
- Accident damage, up to 100% of the car's value, with zero excess.
- Theft: the full value of the car is covered if it is stolen.
- Glass: the windscreen, side windows and rear window, including stone chips and cracks.
- Scratches and bodywork: covered in exactly the same way.
To use Full Protection you must have an official police report (Raporti i Aksidentit). Call the police to the scene on 129 (or the national emergency line 112) and ask for the written report; that report is what allows us to make the claim, so without it the damage cannot be covered.
What is not covered:
- Damage to the underside of the car.
- Any damage caused while driving off-road, which also carries a €3,000 penalty.
- Damage caused by careless, reckless or drunk driving.
- Tyres and wheels: punctures, cuts, burst tyres and damaged rims are not covered and stay the driver's responsibility.
- Traffic fines and parking tickets always stay with the driver.
Insurance does not apply if the driver was under the influence of alcohol or drugs, left the scene of an accident, or did not report it to the police and to us.
10. Accidents, breakdowns and emergencies
- In any accident, however small, the driver must call the police (129) and get a police report, then call Java Rentals at +355 68 447 7777 right away.
- The driver must not admit fault or sign anything for the other party without speaking to us, and must collect the other party's name, licence plate and insurance details, with photos.
- Theft of the vehicle must be reported to the police within 24 hours, and the keys and documents returned to us.
- In a breakdown, call us before arranging any repair or towing. Repairs not approved by us are not refunded.
- If a breakdown is caused by normal wear and not by the renter, we will repair or replace the vehicle as soon as possible at no cost.
- Warning lights on the dashboard must be reported immediately. Continuing to drive with a warning light on may make the renter liable for the damage.
11. Termination, personal data and governing law
- Termination: we may end the rental and take back the vehicle at any time if the renter seriously breaks these Terms. No refund is due in that case.
- Personal belongings: we are not responsible for items left in the vehicle.
- Personal data: we collect the renter's and drivers' personal data (name, passport or ID, licence, contact details) only to manage the rental, meet legal duties and handle fines or claims. We do not sell it. It may be shared with the police, insurers or courts where needed.
- Governing law: these Terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of Albania. Disputes go to the courts of Tirana, without limiting our right to claim against the renter in their home country.
- These Terms are written in English. If a translation differs, the English version applies.
